lighting spur from a ring main/socket

hmmmmm, must admit i dont know where the college got its case studies, etc from. I agree with you Spark123 in that "as long as it feeds only one accessory", but once you have finished the job and gone, how would you know how many accessories it was feeding, at the college they were throwing...

    Fitting an RCCB

Sheeesh, im amazed at how the building regs gets us all in a tissy, read the following links, or any other for that matter and it tells you that the work has to be carried out by a competent person, and that is what this is all about..... Its the building regs that say it has to be done by a...

lighting spur from a ring main/socket

Poor connections, probably due to trying to put 3 wires into the same connection at the back of the socket when making a spur..lol.. The statement about spurs being the cause of most house fires, came from a case study we were shown at college, usually through overloading the circuit with...

    Fitting an RCCB

Thank you Bernardgreen for clarifying the point, obviously some people do not know what the law is for electrics.... this type of ignorance is why the law and Part P regulations were introduced..

    ceiling light problem

Are you sure that all 3 blacks were not together, it sounds like someone has spured a neutral from that fitting at sometime to supply another one, which could be the one thats not working... If you are not sure, get an Electrician to have a look at it..

    motor circuit

Why dont you just get 3 motor circuit breakers like the Telemecanique GV2 and add them to 3 contactors, thats the best way to do it.. http://www.telemecanique.com/en/products/index_fon10_fam15_motor_tesysgv2.htm

    wiring outdoor lights

OMG...get an electrician to disconnect it all NOW before you kill yourself or someone else.. Outside lighting is now covered by its own regulations and should also be RCCB protected.. I am not even going to attempt to tell you how to wire your lights correctly as i dont want to worry about...

lighting spur from a ring main/socket

I agree with Coljack, because a 2.5mm T&E cable is not rated to take 32A, which under fault conditions, you are asking it to do.. Be safe and wire to it in 4mm.. Most house fires are caused by 2.5mm spurs from ring main circuits that are not correctly protected, do it right and sleep at night...

    Fitting an RCCB

Yes, it is advisable to get an electrician in, as it is illegal for you to do this work.. You should look for one that is Part P compliant who can issue you with a certificate once the work is complete, it sounds to me like you may need to upgrade your existing fuse board as you call it, to...

1mm cable on 1.5mm lighting circuit

Daytona seems to have covered this quite well, and like he said, the reason for the 1mm CSA cable is due to the terminals on the fan and the low consumption of the fan unit..just be careful not to try and overtighten the connectors on the PCB as they are only soldered into place and can break...

    Pipes Clicking and Banging

When you say the water is murky, is it a rusty colour, or more a black colour..rusty colour usually points towards sludge as others have said.. Also you may have got some air in the system which could also cause the pipes to bang..

Halstead Ace High No Hot Water and low flow

Hi, This boiler fires up ok, does not lock out, heating works fine, but the DHW is non existant. When a hot water tap is turned on, there is a good flow of water for about 6 seconds before the pressure drops, (as if the pipes are being emptied)and then the water just trickles out and is...
