Rob, unfortunately I never managed to get a reply and decided to purchase a new machine. The machine was over ten years old and it was probably just on its way out. It is worth doing all the obvious checks for signs of failure as described in mine and all the other posts. I still have the machine and would be happy to donate the PCB panels to you if that may help to get the machine going again, you'd just need to cover the cost of the postage.
