Almost certainly an air lock. Fit a Surrey flange (about £15) - a pipe that's inserted in the top of the h/w tank that draws water from deeper down the tank below the air that forms in the top. Or turn down the thermostat if your water is hotter than 85 degrees.

I'm thinking of getting one too. Did you buy one and if so what do you think? MOD please see item 17
