    main earthing

Coming back to the original question I had. There should be a banjo on the gland which should be earthed into the earthing bank on the consumer unt. That is the case. Finally, this may seem obvious, but the copper sheath of the supply cable is used as the main earth. Yes?

    main earthing

Coljack has potential as a forensic scientist. You're right, there is no banjo there. The explanation is complicated. As I say the supply cable was simply detached from the 1976 installation and inserted into the new unit. Unfortunately, the knock-out on the new unit was larger than...

    main earthing

Hi, I'm not an electrician but I employed a Part P quallfied one to install a consumer service unit and I wonder if the earthing is right. I have a flat in a house which was first converted in about 1976. There's a Ryedale distribution box close to the entrance. The flat had a metal CSU...

    Modern plastering - skimping

actually some people do. And they've come to understand that price is the joker in the pack - allowing the chancer to compete for business with the true pro. Anyone who has any dealings with the trade knows how difficult it is sort out who is doing what for what. I want to employ a tradesman...

    Modern plastering - skimping

I live in a house which is 150 years-old. All the walls in the house which have not suffered settlement or mechanical damage are plastered plumb-dumb on the money. That is they are flat as a pancake, that is, when I put a five-foot straightedge up against them there will no undulations against...

Using masonry paint on internal walls

Is there any reason why you can't use masonry paint on internal walls?

    plastering on emulsion?

Problem. Plasterboarded ceiling has been skimmed but not very well - showing jointing tape. It has been emulsioned. I would really like to get it re-skimmed. So is it necessary to re-board existing surface or severely scarfiy existing surface - with a Stanley knife for instance. Ideally...

    bathroom wiring

Is it permissable to site the switch for a bathroom outside the bathroom. Is it also permissable to use a two-gang switch, one toggle controlling the light and the other the fan? Another permissable. Assume you have two lighting circuits in a house. Is it permissable to use a two-gang switch...
