Is the boiler within the guarantee period? If not, you might be able to take out Vaillant's Repair and Care plan and get the heat exchanger replaced by Vaillant for £420. There is also a Fixed Price Repair, but I don't think that covers heat exchangers. Maybe ring Vaillant to discuss options...

On your photo, it looks to me like the pressure gauge might actually be reading zero. The display may actually be showing the message "Fill System to 1.0 Bar". According the the manual, this is one of the messages you get when the pressure is too low. But I an not an expert, so will need...

I can't actually recommend you a boiler, but if you want a Worcester Bosch with a stainless steel heat exchanger, the 1000 is a newer, cheaper model. It has a shorter warranty, though. I believe the heat exchanger is made by the same people who make the one in Vaillants and in Ideal Vogues, but...

Why do you want to control the hot water on a combi boiler with a smart thermostat. Are you just talking about changing the temperature of the water going to the taps? I don't see what else you could change. FWIW, having read the FAQs, I actually think they are talking about controlling heat...

From personal experience, with a couple of cylinders of that age, I don't think 1 hour 20 minutes is out of the ordinary to reach 60C with a flow of 70C.

Does it make a difference how they draw the diagram? The one you posted looks really old fashioned. Maybe convention has changed. The important thing is that the grey is the permanent live, the orange is the switched live, on both. Below is the latest drawing from Honeywell for 5 wire S plan

The grey wire is the permanent live. That wire goes to the NO on the zone valve in all the diagrams inc. the Honeywell ones. It doesn't matter whether it is 5 wires or 6 wires. The only difference with the 6 wire is that there is an extra wire (white) going to the NC on the zone valve. The...
