the rule of thumb is that a flat tile,ie slates,MUST have a soaker system and a seperate cover flashing to deliver water effectively, whilst tiles with a creol can be effectively flashed with a single piece of lead on the tiles and dressed up the wall. lead soakers are still widely used. try web search, soaker detail to dormer, its the same detail, if you dont use soakers with slates you can end up with a real problem. iam fitting some this week. paul
