Shower unit leak - should i try silicone or tape or something else?

Wow, that's impressive you've spotted that mate! I must have looked at that dozens of times and never seen it. Too fixated on the silicone and gaps! Interestingly both bottom sections have the same small hole, but the equivalent top section corners have them covered. See new photos below. I...

Shower unit leak - should i try silicone or tape or something else?

There is only obvious dampness on the small section of tile cut around the shower tray down to the floor. That small section is very soft but on closer inspection in might be all or part siliconed there. I've attached a zoomed in photo below. Also attached photos of the grout on the inside...

Shower unit leak - should i try silicone or tape or something else?

That's interesting to hear. Does your SIL still use the shower regardless of the weeping? We've stopped using ours for a while now, but part of me is thinking that it might be OK to continue to use worst case with the weeping (if i cant properly fix). There is no obvious leaking or spreading of...

Shower unit leak - should i try silicone or tape or something else?

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify some points. It is an older cubicle, maybe 8-10 years old I'm guessing. Bought the house 6 years ago and I've not externally resealed the verticals although I did reseal the horizontal edges on the outside where the tray meets the screens. After the...

Shower unit leak - should i try silicone or tape or something else?

My shower unit is leaking small amounts of water at both bottom corners next to the tiled walls on the outside of the unit. It's only really noticeable if you touch the grout at the bottom with tissue after use and it is damp, but not causing water to spill on the floor or anything. I think it...

    Fence post cracking

That might be a good idea actually. I was contemplating just getting rid of the gate and making all fence, as we don't need a gate there, it's just a nice to have. But would still like to have it. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Fence post cracking

I know I'll need to contact him. He's on holiday for a month so I'll need to wait until then and hope it doesn't get worse in the meantime. Thanks for your suggestion about the extension tube amd pther advice. I'll check it out.

    Fence post cracking

I had a fence put in our back garden with a pretty heavy gate, which has most/all of its weight supported by a single fence post. I just noticed the post is starting to split. Is there anything I can do to fix and/or better support this? I'm thinking it's not going to support the gate much...

    Roof dry ridge union fittings

Thanks for the quick reply. That's reassuring to know. Is it quite common for these union fittings to fall off? I only had the new part of the roof fitted in July and that's one came off already. If they do come off does it compromise the weatherproofing in anyway? I'm wondering if this could...

    Roof dry ridge union fittings

Does anyone know if you need to fit ridge union fittings to a dry ridge roof system? We had half of our roof refitted recently (the original part of the house which was 40 years old) and they used ridge union fittings. But the extension part of the house, its roof was fitted 15 years ago and...

Acceptable gap between Marley roman roof tiles

They must be nailed or glued into the top of the lead valley I think by looking at this photo I took under the tile overhang. I'm guessing nailed down. If so would this work OK?

Acceptable gap between Marley roman roof tiles

You don't think bird prevention combs fitted the length of either side of the valleys (out of sight under the tiles) are sufficient bird deterents? I can't see how they would get in there. Are you meaning specifically from the lead slate for the vent not being bossed down enough?

Acceptable gap between Marley roman roof tiles

They fitted bird prevention combs in the valleys and there is a bit of overhang with the tiles. Also looking under the tiles the valley does curve up a good couple of inches on both sides creating a fairly noticeable valley for water to flow. The valley side on the left (in previous photo) is...

Acceptable gap between Marley roman roof tiles

Do valleys always need mortar? Just looking online and suggests this is not always necessary? What would be the potential concern with the lead slate (assuming the one with the vent) not being dressed/bossed down? Is there any real risk with this being susceptible to wind or water damage...
