Hi

Couple of questions:

I am looking at a job just now, the supply cable comes through wall but straight into the meter, I cant see any Primary Supply Overcurrent Device (mains fuse) is this right???

Also, the board carries semi enclosed re-wireables 3036 - how do I identify the main switch/breaker if there is no marking on it?

Thank you!

Is there a meter cupboard on out site wall maybe there should be a suppliers fuse in there

What does the supply cable look like? Multicore or singles?

The cable going into the meter is twin and earth and I didnt check the external wall, i expected to find the cable going into main fuse then into meter but all there is a big old twin and earth with LN going to meter and the PE going into a connector block then board.

All looks a bit iffy..

Sounds it too.

What size is the T/E?

You really need to find the other end of it..

what make is the fuse box?

if its wylex the main switch will be BS5419

And when you do, PLEASE post a photo of what's on both ends of the cable.

Sounds like fun....

Ditto to that!

Main Switches on boards are generally BS EN 60947-3 on new ones, or BS 5419 on older ones like that.

Is it flats split from one supply perhaps, or above a shop?

As BAS says you couldn't do any work on this without finding the main fuse - the DNO will have one somewhere - assuming they know about the supply  . Is it a DNO meter or a coin operated one put in by a landlord maybe?

Gavin

If its flats there may be a utility cupboard (hopefully) with a switchfuse to protect the other end of your twin & earth.

More info = more help Rob!
