We have an halstead ace boiler which has started losing pressure intermittently and previously was going over three bar. The only problem we now have is losing pressure. When this happens the boiler will not fire up at all. We have pressured the expansion vessel to 1 bar ish following faq thread. Everything was working fine for two days but the same problem has reoccured. Did notice when hot water was being called for thera was a slight drip from blow off pipe but didnt know whether this was what came from expansion vessel from pressurising. The heating is working ok at min has repressured vessel again but am sure the same will happen again. Would be grateful for any advice.

The heating has now been on for 1 hour and the pressure has dropped again. Don't think it is a leak as we have had 2 days where the pressure has been fine. Any advice would be gratefully received as we are struggling to get somebody to come and look at it today. Thank you!

When you tested the exp vessel, was it just flat, did air come out or did water come out?

If the last one then you need a new exp vessel.

Once pre-charged the system pressure should be set to just over 1 Bar. this will then rise to approx 2 Bar when rads are hot.

If prv is dripping you either have too much pressure in the system or perhaps some carp in the prv stopping it from seating correctly.

You didn't drain the boiler to test the exp vessel with the prv by any chance did you? This is a no no and would probably introduce the carp into it.

Thanks for replying !!

Air came out of expansion vessel (but very little).

The pressure valve was turned but seemed to reseat ok without leaks.

Didn't touch PRV when testing expansion vessel.

Just used a gauge to measure pressure...what should the pressure be as there is no clear indication in the manual, but faq states about 1 bar?

Pressure ok now but when hot water is called for, the heating doesn't kick back in.

Really grateful for any any tips or advice you can give. Thanks!

As the FAQ's state, about 1 bar for the exp vessel when boiler drained is fine.

If ch works ok but taps are not recognised as coming on, I would want to check the flow switch

Are the hot taps running as fast as normal? If not there may be a blockage in the inlet filter/flow restrictor.
