f***ing Ideal!!!

a fellow apprentice with me at BG, i last heard (15 years ago) was quite high within the Ideal/Caradon organisation.

knowing him at the time i can quite believe its all his fault.

Andy, your not still there are you ?

Some rubbish being spouted on here . Ideals main work is newbuild. Most new housing use us. Is there possibly underlying faults with these boilers or have they been dry fired??
I admit the response and M series were poor but HE is a lot better. I am involved in local authority job the now 40 boilers a week and have had few faults at all although main contractor is very good and commissions boilers per us.
Fixed price now covers hex. 220 notes
New boiler out next year also no problems in the field with esprit out for over a year.

Saw one of these Esprits the other day. Looks very big and very ugly on the kitchen wall but having a look inside it seems pretty easy to work on and uses more standard parts.

minimiser, response, isar/icos. who designed these pieces of sh1t? I've a feeling it was a result of care in the community in the Hull area.

Shambolic if its rubbish why does everyone on here have the same opinion of icos/isar.
Why did BG take them off sales list several times forcing ideal to redesign them why have ideal redesigned them several times over the past 8 years.
Why have several local authorities around my way stopped fitting them and have vans stocked up with both boards and heat exchangers and costing them a fortune to maintain and yes they where all properly flushed and inhibited and water tested before being signed off.

Poor old Ideal they make what must be in the top 5 boilers for reliabilty and popularity in the Classic range but all the good work is completly ruined by the Icos/ isar .

I for one wont be touching the esprit untill some other mugs have been fitting them for a couple of years to find out how good they are. I value my reputation too much because customers rely on us for fitting them the best there budget allows.

I must say we had up until recently been fitting the icos isar HE jobs with No call backs or any problems.

they just need an extremely clean system to go on.

I also like working on them nice and easy.

I will now retreat to my bunker, put on me steel helmet and wait for the abuse.

I still say all new boilers are awful compared to old band c and boiler jobs.

I miss pre condensing days I do, when you could put a boiler in and KNOW it would not breakdown immeadiatley and would last a good 15 years

:)

not a warmfront contractor are you?

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

No I cannot ride a horse OR rustle cattle

lmao

I have they been dry fired??.

any good boiler design would incorporate an interlock to prevent dry firing don't you think? Shows a real lack of engineering expertise and cost cutting.

The dry fire stat should do that but in some cases (repeated pressing of reset) the boilers can overheat. New orange board has a temp delay not allowing reset until back below 55
Esprit has a low water switch They are learning slowly but getting there ;)
I will stand by the new isar the only drawback is that it has to be fitted very well with little or no flux or debris left in system. They dont like being fitted onto old systems (yer council stuff just boiler replacements on 10 year old systems).
Bg had a kneejerk reaction and took them off service listing (they are back on now) A lot of BG engineers didnt understand the working of the boiler (I was one of them back then) but this was the M series not the new one.
I could go on all day but you fit what you like all installers are different so I wont convince some on here.
But if you look at the posts on here there are just as many in about baxi, worcester, glowworm, valiant etc in fact even more so at times!

In theory, the Isar has all the makings of a really good boiler, just let down by the good old British lack of attention to detail and penny pinching.. It seems that all the designers and accountants that used to work for British Leyland have gone to work for Ideal. A very compact and powerful boiler with some creative engineering, let down at the final hurdle.

Anyone remember the Vauxhall Cresta? a car that rotted quicker than an Alfa Romeo and it took Vauxhall many years to shake the image of producing Rot Boxes

I am  and i certainly don't ride a horse either

I thought it was common knowledge that Eaga/Warmfront OWN Ideal? Seems co-incidental that Ideal are warmfronts number 1 boiler don't you think?

Second being baxi and third being vaillant (although i think worcester are pushing in now and nudging vaillant into 4th

We fit 80% Vaillant (combi's) and Baxi and Ideal share the other 20% simply because we HAVE too.

I remember having to take Isar's off the wall and fitting a new one in it's place simply because Ideal didn't have the resources. Box up the old one and take it back to Plumb's to credit it back!! Thats service for you!

Thankfully we get away with fitting Vaillant's or Baxi's most of the time.

Sorry CM, as I like ya. Really badly built boiler but once you explain that the repair will take a while and cost the customer the price of a cheap car, they cry.... give up their next holiday and let me loose to repair them.

Thats why I fit Worcesters. God awful to work on, but how often do you work on one under 8 years old?

Can do a heat ex on them in 2 hours now. That many of them leak!

Hairy Muff Sogs

:)

I still think all new boilers are shyte and trhe ideal aint that much worse

still easier to cange everything on it than most

LMAO

:)

That is because when i was at school any vauxhaul you saw was a rotbox not just a cresta they hand rusted panels hanging off them all over the place. It wasn't a one model short lived problem it went on for a long time.

jaguars too were made with very bad steal and had very poor build quality. Only shear snobbery allowed them any sales at all. You had to drill a hole in the boot of the xj6 to let the water out.
