We have had a bit of an ongoing issue, he's been late delivering the window frames, and now every excuse possible for the glass, scratched 3 times, lorry crash, you name it, i just can't believe Pilkingtons from Northampton have been that negligent, are they?

Problem was, after they fitted the frames i paid in full the oustanding balance, because previously i used him to fit all the windows on the front of the house before and the glass DID follow the day or so after.

Now one of the fitters is injured and can't lift the glass, i work away from home now n again, and no windows means the security of the house is compromised, my partner and child have had to leave the house on several occasions due to noises and being scared at night, they never even offered to board up the window area, well they did but it didn't happen. Of course my heating bills have shot up etc.

Ive had enough of the excuses, and wish to take action, what can i do? I deserve compensation for this. It's not on. I don't want other people to be messed about like his company has done to us.

Any guidance or advice most appreciated.

That sounds really bad. Are they Fensa registared if so maybe contact fensa.

Hi Phil, thanks for your advice, spoke to Fensa, ironically they're only interested if he claims to be Fensa when he isn't?!?

He is Fensa registered so it's not their concern i need to speak to my local trading standards apparently.

WTF?!?

are you actually saying they have fitted the frames and left your house without any glass, this is really bad the worst thing i ve ever heard why would he even attempt starting the work if he did nt have any glass.the firm which makes my windows can have the units made up in about an hour if its an emergency.i really feel for you on this one all i can say is if it was me i d start boarding them up yourself to make sure your family is safe or even pay someone to do it for you.i know you should nt have to but its all about safety.second thing i d do is call this guy again and again until you get your glass.unfortunately you ve aready paid him so your probably not going to get any money back even if you take him to court you ll probably end up losing out.also check the insurance on the house this may be invalid as it s not secure. hope you get it sorted and i hope that numbskull gets what he deserves too

I have a feeling perhaps he is going bust, hasn't paid his trade accounts so can't get glass delivered, has used your money for something else.

Will FENSA help with an installer who goes bust with an unfinished job?

to be honest i would contact the local paper their probably going to be interested and run the story which will serve two purposes firstly it s gonna tell everyone how bad he is. but secondly and more importantly its gonna get alot of firms wanting to step in and help you out as the publicity they will get will outweigh cost of a few units. this is what i would do.fensa and other trade bodies are rarely interested and very slow to act plus if they allow jokers like him to regester then who they gonna recommend another joker perhaps.hope this helps just wish i coud do more

i would get a small claims court form and fill it in, send a copy to hi stating he has to be in touch immediately and has 7 days to finish everything, then file this with the small claims court.

I would probably feel by this point that he will not be back and if you have no glass start looking around for someone to get this sorted asap. Local firms may be prepared to take a few payments if money is a problem having paid the total.

unfortunately this is a lesson to everyone, never pay all the money until all the work is done. generally speaking the good companies will not ask for money until they have completed their work to their own expected standards.

This is a horrible situation but at least once you have the windows secured the insurance will be valid and you and your family can get on wth your life and hopefully not need to be in touch with this rogue trader.
