engine management light!!!!

Please help, ive got a 1996 vauxall corsa, 1.4, had it for about 6 months and the engine management light keeps flashing on, its always done it on and off nothings ever happened.

it broke down with loss of power and splutering the other day after the light kept coming on, was doinga reletively long motorway trip at the time, car passed its MOT the say beofre.

Any ideas would be really helpfull

get a code read done dude.this will tell you what the car thimks is wrong with it. engine management is not an mot failure.
 
If the oil pump is failing, fouled, then you could be looking at serious damage if ignored.
 
Certainly get the code checked, but FWIW, when my Vauxhall did this, it turned out to be a faulty anti knock sensor, cheap part and and easy DIY fix. The code should tell you what's up though.

When getting the code read, check the price first, main dealers are generally very expensive, yet smaller garages can often also read it for less.
 
We have 2 Vauxhalls, I have a code reader on my laptop which allows me to read the codes and turn off the light too.

I had the "spanner" light come on then go off a couple of months ago on my Combo but there was no fault recorded and it's never done it again since :confused:
 
Stuart - you got any more info on how to link your lappy upto the van for diagnostics?
