Hi there,
hopefully one of you wonderful people can help me understand the problem i think i have.
I have fitted a mira excel built in shower and i have very little pressure and also the temperature is crap to put it politely.
I have read the instruction manual and it says that a mini expansion vessel should be fitted on the cold water inlet to the boiler. i have looked on the web and found that most mini expansion vessels are fitted outside the boiler, therefore i know mine has not got one, unless it is hidden in the boiler? i cant see it!
Anyways, would this really fix my pressure and temperature problem if i fitted one of these?
I look forward to some advice that will hopefully make things clearer

The mira excel shower works on either high or low pressure systems.

If the shower is plumbed in on the mains feed there may be an installation fault or you have to low pressure.

The most common installation for this shower is on the gravity fed system and if this is the case the pressure can be low.

The expansion on your boiler will not make any difference to you showers pressure.

Please check the installation and if the problem persists contact the manufacturer at

thanks, but why does it state in the installation manual that you require a mini expansion vessel on your cold water pipe to the boiler?
im not that into boilers etc.

when the shower is on it fires the boiler. the boiler pumps out hot water. water expands by 4% when heated so when you turn the shower off the expansion needs to be accomodated for as it could possibly burst a pipe. the mini expansion vessel allows it to do this until the water contracts again. in most sealed combi systems if you have a clothes washer with a rubber hose connected this does the exact same job as a mini vessel.

Many thanks for the answer :), that has hit somethign in my little pea brain as why we need it when there is all ready a large expansion vessel in there.
i take it the large one is for the heating system though :).
one question is tho, if i aint got one on at present and it has been working for years, is there a need to put one on now? as i guess with the taps also running of the same supply then if it was going to burst a pipe it would of done by now? i know the shower may be on longer then the taps but is the correct in thinking?
also, i guess there is nothing i can do about the pressure of the shower then?
and to increase the temp i guess i have to turn the temp of the the boiler up?
many thanks.

I recently fitted the same shower. With regards to the temperature have you done the commissioning bit at the end of the manual where you have turn the temperature dial as far as it will go without the pressing the safety and then adjust the spindle until the temperature is right. I had a similar problem and had it on 9 all time time until I realised I had made this mistake. It now sits on 5-6.

yes it would be reasonably safe to assume your pipwork is capable of the extra expansion of water. i wouldnt fit a mini vessel as in my opinion the manufacturers are just covering their backs. if you had a shower there previously then you should be fine. yes the one in the boiler is for the expansion of the central heating because if you look at the pressure dial on the boiler it will rise when the heating warms up then drop as the heating cools.

Did you flush the pipe work before connecting to the shower valve.
There are very fine mesh filters on the inlets to the valve and they soon block with flux, paste, scale etc.

Whats the pressure and temp like on the other taps in the bathroon?
If its ok then u need to clean the carp out of the showers filters at the inlet connections.
You worcs 24i combi has no user adjustable water temp stat. it pumps it out as it is at around 9 ltrs a minute.

many thanks for all your replies ), well i spoke to an old friend last night who is now a retired plumber. he stated the same thing that there is no point in spending the extra money on fitting a expansion vessel.
He also said that you dont get an amazing pressure with mixer showers as well, so guess im gonna have to live with the pressure (was hoping to be liek a power shower :), one can dream lol).
anyhow, i have done what ging32 said after also reading the manual in more depth, I have now got a decent hot shower so i am happy with that.
only problem i have with it now, and im unsure if this is the same for all mixer showers, (ging32 can you answer this) is that if i leave the temperature turned upto max when shutting the flow off it sometimes still keeps the shower running?? so i have to turn the flow off as well as turning the temp know down, is this familiar.
Again, cheers for all the answers, they are always appreciated.
Many Thanks

Pleased to here the temperature dial thing worked.

With regards to the flow you have to turn the shower off using the flow control lever as the dial simply controls the temperature. So just leave it on the desired temeprature and switch on using the control. All mixers are different but this is how the Excel works.

Hope this helps
