dishwasher baskets

I've just priced up replacement top and bottom baskets for a Bosch dishwasher...best part of £150....ouch!
Problem is, they're rusted...plastic coating eaten away and rotten, rusted metal showing.
Any advice on repairs...'liquid plastic' paint, or some such?
IIRC, at school, we made a ring holder, dipping the holding section in some kind of hot, viscous solution that, when cooled, became a softish plastic coating.
Anything like this still exist??

You could try painting it with something like Hammerite

Plastikote paint may work, this is a spray paint that has a similar finish to the plastic coating.

Remember that the dishwasher is not a very hospitable environment, temperatures of 80+ degrees, steaming away for extended periods. You may find the paint failing.

Saying that, I used a spoon to stir a pot of emulsion, forgot to wash it immediately. There is still paint in the grooves on the handle that the dishwasher hasn't removed a whole year of washing later.
