I was wiring a spur last week with 3 3 x 4 NYMJ cables needed to be terminated. It was an absolute dose to terminate and i broke the clip on the box on my first go after much gunthering i finally wired it even the qualified fella i was working with said it was a dose to do would been handy if we werent using shallow boxes for the spur i was just wondering anyone have any tips on how to go about it instead of mashing the cables trying to press on the cover as the qualified fella told me to do its all well and good but if one of the cables comes loose and when theyre testing it fingers will be point thanks in advance

The only option is to use a deeper box if you have done all you can to make things neat already. Arranging the conductors prior to connection and making sure you do not have excess length within the box is vital when using shallow boxes as it reduces the risk of undue strain being placed on the connections and reduces the risk of damage when many cores are wedged into a small space leading to faults later on.

Another top tip, is to bend back the top and bottom lugs of the metal back box as they aren't being used, to give a bit more space. I tend to do with on all single boxes as a matter of course. And I always used 35mm for fused spurs, it's quicker in the end
