Hi

I have just extended my property which is gutted and now have 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a ensuite. It is a detached property.

My previous setup left much to be desired, i.e taking a shower and someone opened a tap downstairs would realy drop the pressure etc, i can tinker with DIY and stuff but i need some help from experts to get this right. 15mm cold feed from mains to a Biasi 28kW condensing boiler and 22mm gas pipe feed.

I have searched through most of this forum, which has been very helpful, but as i have limited knowledge of the science behind plumbing i was hoping someone could enlighten me in hopefully lehmans terms.

I do not know how to measure pressure of the water or the flow rate, which i think you would probably just fill a container and time it??

What i was hoping for was help with the piping to the boiler i.e 28mm gas? 22mm for water and would i need a pump to the boiler to keep sustained pressure/flow i have picked this info up from this forum but am not sure what the implications of these are and if they are needed.

I thank you for reading and appreciate any advice,

Best Regards and i wish everybody a happy and prosperous new year.

Dont you expect to have a CORGI registered installer to do those parts of a boiler installation which by law should be done by a CORGI?

Rather than fitting a Vaillant 937 you would be better keeping the Biasi and adding an unvented cylinder.

please tell me that you are not planning to do this yourself.
you knowledge is close to zero and it would be criminally stupid to even touch so much as the gaspipe

thanks for you replies, and are appreciated

as i said i understand the basics, and have installed 8 boilers (all family properties) and had my last one which is the biasi checked over as it was my first condensing to make sure i did everything right, and it was.

but i do understand where your coming from.

i have heard from this forum and from friends of accidents with cylinders and as i have not ever attempted or helped someone with one i would not feel confident with it, also i learned from this forum that it would need annual servicing?

Thanks again

Regards

Don`t understand why you need help then? You obviously know it all. ;)

HAHA

very funny, theres always someone, i knew i would get that.

Thanks.

What? someone who knows what they are doing?

you don`t idiot,

you have already installed 8 dangerous boilers according to you. o.k. where they?
check the working pressure, burner pressure , working pressure at meter, check for leaks before you installed boilers? you are a dangerous d*ickhead, I wouldn`t let you light my kids barbecue without supervision.

I think the point has been well made on this one but being abusive does no favours to those people that believe they know more than others who frequent this forum.

If you don't approve of what is being said/commented on then don't contribute.

You have been told countless times. DIY gas work is legal. DO NOT TELL LIES. YOU CONTINUE TO SPAM A SELF INTEREST GROUP

Rather than fitting a Vaillant 937 you would be better keeping the Biasi and adding an unvented cylinder.

An unvented cylinder is the last thing he needs. It requires an annual service which costs. A nice earner for the likes of you though.

You have been told countless times that to service an un-vented cylinder is NOT expensive when done on the same visit as a boiler service.

Perhaps if your mental state enabled you to absorb what you read, written by professionals, rather than one who just reads brochures, then you would not keep repeating the utter rubbish to continue to spout.

Screwfix sell pressure gauges.
Time filling a bucket in litres/minute.
Change the stoptap to a full bores tap.
Have a 22mm dedicated cold fee from stop tap to the combi.
The gas supply needs a dedicated 28mm supply from the meter. The length of the run can be determined by this:
http://www.copperinfo.co.uk/webcasts/domestic-gas-pipework-pipe-sizing/player.html

Also for high flowrates look at:
W-Bosch 550, floor mounted job.
Ethos 54C

Fit a magnaclean filter on the CH return pipe, put in X-100 after a good flush and add more every 4 years.

So we've moved onto oversizing gas pipes now. A 28kw boiler requires just under 2.9 cu m of gas per hour. You don't necessarily need 28mm to provide this volume of gas. It's all dependant on length of pipe runs, number of bends, number of appliances etc.

Thank you very much,
what typical pressure would i need and flow rate to keep the boiler working to its capacity. Will i need a pump if it is low?

The only reason i decided to go with vaillant is because i know the name, and a lot of people swear by it, i to be honest have never heard of ethos, obviously this is due to my lack of knowledge, i do try to do as much research as poss and did read on this forum about the ethos it sounds very good but i am just worried on reliability etc? would you say that is a better boiler? how much do they roughly cost? and also bearing in mind cost of living these days i dont want to go over board with the boiler i.e. consume vast amounts of gas.

vaillant 37kW, 15l/min but can do upto i think 20? using the tanks and blending, £1200
ethos 54c, 41kW, 25l/min, ?
W-Bosch 550 30.6kW, 25l/min, £1800

so is the bosch the best unit seems like it would consume less gas but give similar flow rate to that of the ethos? my cousin has a W-B and swears by it!

which would you say would be a better all round unit efficiency etc?

unless the flow rates i have quoted are for different temps?
excuse my ignorance but what does that mean flow rate @ 35c rise?

The reason i thought 28mm is because i read on the forum for runs 3m or more that is recommended, my run is going to be close to 5m with roughly 6 bends.

Thank you very much for help i really appreciate it.

Best Regards

Notice how, after being warned or the perils of DIY gas work, the OP decides to ignore all the experienced, professional advice and only listen to the dangerous, unqualified and incompetent googling BB, who has never fitted any gas appliance or carried out any gas work in his entire sad life ;)

This sums up the exact point I made about BB being too dangerous to be allowed to post on here, in another thread

A boiler would be your best efficient unit or a fekkin bonfire in the middle of your house, that`s your best bet, if you go with the boiler option then you will have to fekkin fuel it normally by gas which we all do, don`t be concerned wether it is glowworm, worcester.potterton, ravenheat or whatsoever, THEY WILL ALL NEED TO BE POWERED BY GAS!

O.k.? don`t bother shopping around ,they all do, and burn the same. Gottit :?: ;) I have a tiny little 1.1 Corsa, my best friend has a 4.4 black Jaguar, I put 20 pound a week in mine, he puts 80 pound a week, we work together, go figure.
