Hi guys, Im am a plasterer, and yes my rule is dont plaster over wallpaper!!
However, in my own house I have striped the walls back and am left with a very stubburn backing paper, which will not come off easy, 1x1 sqm nealry all day with steamer!!! my only option is probally to dry strap it off, but that also is a long solution.
Now a builder I konw said just use BOND-IT, paint leave 24hrs no problems, especially as the backing is rock hard.
He said when this stuff came out they plastered over glass with it?!? is that true..
I have seen it used on wood on a curved surface so surely it will be over for what i need wouldnt you think.
So guys please give me your thoughts before i go ahead.

Cheers
Darren

I wouldn’t risk it; if you’re a plasterer you’ll know about all those nice little blisters if the paper doesn’t thoroughly seal! It’s a very small area & then there’s the additional expense of a tub of “Bond It”. Just get brutal & run a disk sander over the offending area; should take 5 mins flat.

If you want to get the paper off just plaster over it.....Easy

Yeah forgot to say its a whole room.

All i need to know is just what this Gypsum Bond-it is really like.
As i say I have seen it used on Wood which amazed me, and was told it would also work on glass!!
Surely once dried paper wont be to much trouble.
The issue I have is time, I need to work and I need to get my nagging woman of my back, and hoped this would be a good solution.

I think I might try one wall and see, truth is I have plastered over a wall before with painted lining paper on before and it polished up with no bubbles or rips in it, and no come back on it, but it was a small area.

Hi Darren

The gyprock bonding is as good as they say i have done this before.
as long as the wallpaper is sound but remember it will get wet on application of the sealant and may come away.

I would give it 2 coats of sealant
coat 1 I would water down a little for your whole room may be 1/2 lt of water gust to thin it out a bit.
leave this to dry over night so it seals properly.
when dry check with a sharp scraper for loose paper and remove.
coat 2 apply as thick as you can and roll it in.
leave this to dry and apply plaster.

Top tip you don't want this product on wood work or any thing including skin its well hard to get off.

Hope this helps a little
