Urgent Glowworm 30HXI Spare Help Need

Hi I have a Glowworm 30HXI Gas Boiler

Recently it developed a problem, I called our cover provider Homeserve and they sent out a repairman. It required the Burner Door Seal (801635) to be replaced.

No problem, however the repairman was unable to get the part and after 10 days our home is freezing. I obtained the part myself and asked them to fit the part.

In doing so he damaged another seal/gasket.

Looked at the manual and he should removed the burner and fan as one unit to replace the burner door seal. However he removed the ducting from the fan to burner to remove the burner unit. Must have been quicker he thought. However in doing so he damaged another seal/gasket, which is required. However since he never got the original part it will be quicker if I source the new part which is now needed.

In the diagram below we need the gasket/seal between ducting (coloured red) and the burner plate. Can anyone identify the part and glowworm part number. So I can order it and get them back to fit.

I never seem top ever hear anything good about Homeserve.

There was a problem getting spares over the holiday season but since the beginning of last week everything has been back to normal and most parts are available the next day.

I have heard of several other cases of Homeserve taking ages to get parts which should be available either off the shelf on the next day. I expect that there is some ordering problem within Homeserve.

Homeserve are using a company called The Heating Company www.theheating.com who appear to be merging with another company. Believe me these guys are giving everyone in repair businesses a bad name for service, avoid.

Asked the repair guy when he would be back with the spare. His reply was I don't know you would be better get it yourself, I'm still waiting for them to get the original burner door seal from a week ago.

British Gas may have the part but I don't fancy paying £192 for a £10 seal. If I wait for the The Heating Company or Homeserve I may be waiting weeks at this rate.

The moral is not to use Homeserver waste of time and money.

So anyone able to come up with with part number, please help.

no but how much does your homeserve contract cost. i'd phone them up and freak out at them for making you wait that long. disgracefull.

Believe me we have. I'm not usually a complainer. But the poor service has cost more that it would have to call BG out as we had to go out and buy heaters, and the spares so far.

Next year I'm going to be sticking the money I give homeserve aside and have it as breakdown fund.

Thats the Glow-worm 801635 Seal Heat Exchanger Door Seal, which fits between the combustion chamber and the burner.

Which was fitted, but he destroyed another seal as he remove the duct which connect the fan to the burner.

Its fits between the part i've highlighted in red and burner face plate. See below

How on earth could anyone damage that seal when replacing the burner door seal :eek:

You don't even have to touch that part or remove the fan from the burner to remove the door.

It comes off as one component.

Spares should be available at worst in 48hrs. I suggest you ask them to send an actual boiler engineer next time and demand your annual fee back as compensation for the idiot leaving you without heat for so long :mad:

I know, and I did point out at the time, that he was not doing the correct method stated in the glowworm book for replacing the burner door seal. Basically a crap fitter taking a short cut, then causing another problem.

I'll be surprised if I get any heating this week if the service so far is anything to go by. We've already been without heating since 30th Dec thats why I'm after the part myself as I can't really on homeserve or the fitter to get it.
 
complain to the newspapers. its not something i would normally advocate but that service is **** poor. ask homeserve to put you up in a hotel. check the terms and conditions of thier cover too.
 
Call your local Parts Center and get them to order the seal. Then charge it to Homeserve ;)
 
Contrary to what I may have said before, I was advised by one of their managers today that ALL their staff are now contractors.

But as far as I can gather the contractor is responsible for obtaining any spare parts but individual contractors may have difficult procedures for ordering them.
