I dropped a heavy joint pan sharply on the inner door and caused the glass panel to come partially detached.....it slopes towards the outer glass panel.
An electrician told me that the glass panels are factory sealed with heat resistant glue, that he therefore couldn't reattach the glass panel himself and would have to get a new inner door panel which he would fit for an all in price of £329!

I took over the oven with the house. It's probably c.20 years old but works fine (unsurprisingly as it's a good make and not a complex appliance). I'm not considering replacing the kitchen. It's of good quality and in good nick.

Was the electrician correct? Surely one can even replace glass panels in doors so resticking shouldn't be impracticable?
Is the solution to get a new oven???

Hiya,
If he's an electrician and not a Whitegoods engineer then you've firstly go the wrong person in to look at the appliance.
Get a tube of high temp sealant.
Take the door off the appliance.
Take the door apart so you can work on the inner door only.
Take the glass off, clean off all the old sealant from glass and frame.
Clean it all down with white spirit or similar. Let it dry.
Put the door on newspaper and run a bead of sealant around the metal frame.
Place the glass on top of the sealant.
Place a reasonably heavy weight on the glass.
Leave it to dry in a warm place for 24 hours.
Trim off the excess sealant on the outside of the glass.
Rebuild the door.
Refit to the cooker.
Jobs done.
