Hello,

I've started to use Osmo coloured wood wax finish on a pine floor, but something seems to be going awry... It's been applied in a thin coat with a brush. 24 hours later, even though it seems to have dried ok, it looks as though there's a thick, opaque coat of matt colour on top of the boards, and here & there some of the brush marks are still visible. It's like there's a layer of coloured wax just sitting on top of the boards. We've tried giving it a good rub, but this doesn't seem to help.

The only places where it looks different happen to be in an area over some central heating pipes - here there's a good colour & slight sheen as I'd expect.

We've used the Osmo hardwax oil really successfully on other floors in the house, & have applied this in the same way, so no idea what might have gone wrong. Anyone got any clues?

thanks very much,
Louise

maybe the floor has an original coating and thde wax isnt penetrating the timber have you tryed it on a bear peice of timber ?

After applying it with a brush, did you buff over it immediately?

Other question: did you stir the tin before starting?

hello. thanks for your replies We did stir the tin well, but it wasn't buffed after application. It does look as though the wax hasn't penetrated the floor as it should - presumably the only solution is to sand off & have another go?

Do you happen to know of any other products like this one that are good for giving a different colour to an orangey pine floor?

thanks,
Louise

By buffing after applying the product you in fact warm it up a bit so the wax doesn't prevent the colour to penetrate.
