i'm taking up a chipboard floor in a bathroom to be replaced with WPB plywood so i can have a shower tray on it my problem is the last joist is under the stud wall so there is nothing to support the last part of the floor.
i was planning on sistering a section of floor joist to the side of the existing one to support the floor but i can only get acess to one side of the joist so i wouldn't be able to get bolts through, would it be acceptable to glue and screw the new timber to the old joist :)

in a word "yes" ...Using 4inch ( 100mm) screws would be substantial , unless the floor joist is holding lots of weight bolting together is not necessary ...

great thx, and no it's not holding a lot of weight it's also in the corner of the room so there won't be much trafiic on it either.

the piece you screw on only needs to be be a 2 by 1. just a lip to pick up the edge of the plywood. pre drill the 2 x 1 if you're putting through big screws, especially near the ends.

ok 2x1 it is i thought i would have had to use something bigger ,but there isn't going to be much weight on it :)

no it's not spanning like a joist. you're just adding a little onto the side of the joist to catch the end of the floorboard or ply in your case. the joist still does all the work.
do use plenty of screws though to attach it. like 150 centres maybe.
