Hi, 3 security lights outside aren't working. We've just bought property and expect the bulbs have gone. Only issue is can't find any internal switches to turn them off and don't know what fuse they are on.

Is it safe just to turn down the sensors while I swap the halogen stips out? If not is there anyway to tell what circuit they are on or do I need to switch all the power out!

Many thanks

have a better look there has to be a switch for them, this may even be the reason they are not working..

cable sticking out of a wall without a plug on somewhere?

and no, you can't turn the sensors down to change the lamps..

you need to turnt the fittings off.. even if that means turning the whole house off..

Cheers mate

Do you think they could all be on the same circuit? I've got something labelled 5A Ring in the fuse box that doesn't seem to be anything else....

It could be - but it's not safe to make assumptions. Turn off all the power, change the bulbs, once you manage to make them light up, then you can determine which circuit they're on...

Our house is similar (built 1999), the outside security light feed is supplied from the downstairs lighting circuit, it is not independantly switched.

Dont trust anything. Turn all the power off at the main switch.

I once inspected a PIR floodlight that had been replaced by a householder.
There was a yellow wire in the fitting and he assumed that it was the earth so he put it in the earth terminal. That yellow wire was a live conductor and the whole fitting's case was live.

I had turned all of the power off before starting work otherwise the shock, or the fall from the ladder, would have done for me....

would that not depend on how who installed them connected them?

so to adame, as the others are saying there does not have to be a switch soley for these lights, how they are wired depends on how the job was done, there is no way of knowing without further investigation
