Hi, can anyone recommend a decent network ip camera suitable for outdoor use? I would prefer one I can connect to my server and access it remotely. Thanks

sorry i cant recomend one, but i have a question.

suppose you have one, and you are sitting at location "N" watching when some one comes to your house at "H" this some one looks a bit "suspect" what are you going to do?

For this question N & H are 90 miles apart

Good question, and I have thought about that, I have three choices:-

1/ Phone 999
2/ Activate the remote kennel lock and release the two rottweillers
3/ Use the recording as evidence as normal

If you want decent, then it is going to cost.
Axis, Mobotix, Panny et al. Price will make your eyes water, but you do get what you pay for.

However, without knowing the situation we can't give a more detailed answer.

elevonic, your options 1 & 2 are obviously in jest, which leaves option 3.

But you cant use it as you suggested because you are not present at the premises, so you will have to go home and then get it (unless you want to tell me otherwise) but it will still be there when you get home anyway*

suppose you are on holiday in say France, you go to an internet cafe and see your house being broken into, what are you going to do? no really, what will you do?
A) cut short your holidy and go home
B) not say anything and wait untill the holiday finishes, worrying about it all the time.
C) Wish you had never seen it in the first place.

*Its just that for a domestic property that is only watched by the owner, i do not see the point of an viewable from remote location camera

you may however wish to see this

if its for "entertainment" purposes thats different (lots on the web to see) but your use is not entertainment

Isn't that for the OP to decide?

Atilla, may i ask you to read the whole topic from the begining.
And your point is?

you are trying, yet again, to decide for the OP. If he/she wants to remote view, then it is their choice. Remember, unless you have prior knowledge, they may just not be telling the whole story. And as i said earlier, with further details of the situation, we couldn't give a reliable answer.

Oh, and aren't you the one who said he couldn't recommend a Camera??

eh?? would you not ring the police instead then?

Why is it no one ever reads what is infront of them, not what they think it says

but i have a question.

everything i then asked is related to the question which i have already asked

atilla said:

and again i say

sorry i cant recomend one

no where does it say that i did recomend a camera.

Masona, the OP could indeed try and call the English police (from France remember) but there is no g'tee they will actaully go. (if it is from an ARC they will have a "verification code", the police will respond to this, but a private individual...............

Time you took a chill pill and stopped lecturing Mr Maplin man.

And where did France come into it? ah, that'll be you.

Looking back at the original question, yes, i did answer it.

I dont mind if you want to show your self up as being ignorant and stupid, please go ahead and continue.

Behave yourself, silly boy.

The question was answered, you simply chose, as usual, to add your usual extra opinions on how people choose to you a product.

So, to help you. Axis, Mobotix, Panasonic et al. All have a good range of product that fits the requirements in original post. Personally, the German product is the way to go, but as stated, eyewatering on cost.

There was a case when the father was on holiday in Spain and saw the burgars trying to break into his house while the daughter was asleep upstairs via the internet, rang the police in the UK and the police arrested them.

It has come to my conclusion that some installers, engineers and companies are not really that serious about the times we live in...

Common Intermediate Format (CIF) CCTV Cameras are decades old and should have been phased out quite along time ago.

Is it not clear to people that IP cameras and Network cameras really need to be above 525 lines to really for any system that is not your typical retail shop of about 100 m/2.

When you're putting up cameras that need to see past 10 m, CIF is just unacceptable and quite bad. For a serious wireless cctv you really need to be looking at £200 per camera to be getting the quality that would provide at LEAST 525 lines, say VGA or DVD quality. Anything below that is just outdated and plain stupid.

Anyway...
