help please

I am mainly a carpenter but do tiling as well as i work for a small company, all the floors/walls i tile are new so its easy work. I am just in the process of doing a complete refurbish on my partners kitchen. i have just spent a couple of days getting 3 layers of floor tiles up the bottom 2 being laid with bitumen. i have scrapped the floor so all i am left with is a black concrete mess. I had spoken to my tile supplier previously about laying on this floor and they said it would just need sealing ( pva ) and then leveling before tiling, now they are saying no ??

I dont really want to ply the floor as its a large area and being on concrete will be a pain. she has the tiles already but i have mentioned if i cant find an answer we will have to lino it or laminate.
The only other option i can see is grind the floor till its off another job i would like to do without.

Is there a latex/leveling compound that will adhere to the floor so i can tile straight on or will you all sit back and laugh and say NO :)

many thanks
Andy

better mention too this is a tidy up job as she will be renting it out so price comes into it a bit

Give the floor a good scraping so it's free of any high spots of adhesive - then, if it's flat enough just tile straight onto what you've got with a powdered adhesive suitable for your tile type. End of problem. ;)

I am going to tops tiles tomorrow as they sell a different product to my supplier i.e. BAL heard there powder is more versatile than howtex which is what i normally use , just heard horror stories of adhesive crystalising due to the bitumen  but floor is as scrapped as i can get it so thanks for your reply :D

Have a look at the prices on trades direct and see what you can get the adhesive for online - when you get to topps tiles and they quote you near £50 a bag, quote them the prices that you can get it for delivered online and they should soon meet that price. There's a large mark-up on adhesive and the building trade is on it's ar&e so stick to your guns and tell them you want it for the right price or you'll wait the few extra days and get it from the online seller.
Then, spilt the saving and post it to me. ;)
