Water pipes making noise

S

skuba

whenever we switch our taps off, or after the toilet has refilled with water, we get a loud banging/knocking sound for a few seconds

does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?

thanks

sorry about this, i've just seen a similar thread 'Noisy water system' so i'll have a read through that as well

EDIT: actually, it's not exactly the same problem as the other thread. we don't have any water tanks and it's a combi boiler

It's probably just the pressure of your water.

Do you have high water pressure?

Does it happen on all your taps?

Has it always happened since you've had the combi?

If the taps have recently been installed, are the pipes securley clipped?

thanks for your reply

to be honest, i don't know how to check whether or not our water pressure is high

no, it only happens on our taps upstairs

no, it's only started to happen within the last month or so and the combi boiler's been installed for over 10 years

it sounds like the noise is coming from the water pipe leading to the toilet in the bathroom

So does it not happen on the hot taps?

sods law - it's not happening at the moment so i can't test it for sure, but i'm sure happens on both hot and cold taps. also, the noise sometimes happens without running any taps or flushing the toilet
