Hello folks.
I have not much knowledge when it comes to electrics but I would like to know if its possible to install a six way consumer unit and run all six mcbs at 32 amps each, or would the consumer unit not be able to handle this load.
cheers.[/b][/quote]

what exactly are you planning to run?

if it's just ringmains then it's highly unlikely that you'll be running at 32A each ring..

Hi.
I want to install 6 radial circuits for 3 commercial washing machines and 3 commercial tumble dryers. Each machine is 25 amps. So I was going to install six 4mm radial cables for each machine each having their own 32 amp fuses. Or is there a more convenient way of running these machines with perhaps three 10mm cables and higher fuses running 2 machines on each radial.

nope, 6 x 4mm radials is the best way..

is this a laundrete or do you just have lots of washing to do? ( 19 kids? :) )

going on the basis that not every machine will be on their heating cycle at exactly the same time then you should be ok.. it might be tight though..

For god sake get an electrician in to do it!
You clearly don't know enough to be doing the work - if you do something wrong and it injurs someone you wont have a leg to stand on.

It might as well be me then............
Are you sure you are competant to be carrying out this work. It does not sound like it from the question you are asking.

EDIT: Damn - beaten by Spark :( ;)

the main switch on the CU is unlilkely to be more than 100A max load, and may be less.

What is the main fuse?

In a laundrette the driers are likely all to be running at the same time, and you would be lucky if all the washers were not heating together as well from time to time

I may be planning to start a small laundry buisniss on my own domestic premises, so it is likely that all 6 machines could be running at the same time. So is my best bet to use 6 radial circuits all with their own 32amp fuses.

will my consumer unit be able to cope with all these radials at 32amps each.

You are going to have to shell out for a larger supply which will probably mean upgrades to the existing install. You definately will need the services of a good, competant Electrician !
(And the upgrade won't be cheap - if available)

Cheers lads for your help.
I think an expert is what I need. I am competent of installing radials ect, but never to this degree.
I wish I had three phase lol.

Aye, I'd be looking to spec something like a 3 phase 100A supply for the loading.
Installing new circuits is notifiable under Part P.

Have you looked at using gas for the driers? Do you need an equal number of driers to washing machines?
