to get the edge finish they will tape the frame at the required distance seal and remove tape leaving an edge finish on frame.

Remove tape immediately - don't wait until the silicon sets.

Get a pot of fairy liquid, dip your finger in and then run it gently down the silicone

Any decent & experienced fitter won’t use anything other than the gun; cut the nozzle at an angle to the desired bead width & pull the gun at the same angle, don’t push it; the trick is to apply the bead in one fast, continuous action using moderate pressure on the trigger. With practice you will get a nice even bead every time; works with tiling too. The mistake practically everyone makes is to apply the bead too slowly; a natural thing to do but it usually has the opposite to the desired effect. All you have to do to finish it off is spit on your finger & run it along the bead; or if you don’t like the taste of silicone, use a drop of watered down Fairy Liquid as Woody suggests.

the finish ive seen on outside silcone, yes it does look like some type of tape or tool has been used, if it is a tape, there must be different thickness being used, were silicone has gone on frame and wall edge has been up to 3mm

As Richard says, I dont use anything unless it really needs it, the reason being that the silicone gets pushed onto the frame and becomes very thin, which looks awful and peels off.

Pratice to get a good even bead without 'fingering' (ooer)
