Have had an Indian Sandstone Patio down for about 14 months now. Roughly 30m2 and i'd say about 30-40% of the cement pointing between each slab has come away or is breaking up

Is this normal for it too happen so quick? I'd have thought the pointing should last a few good years before needing redone? Just want to see what people think before I contact the firm who laid it

Thanks

Hi well i laid indian slabs for a patio well over 2 years ago and i put the pointing in with a pointing gun and i seen it the other week and its still like brand new no weeds or cracking coming through hope this helps

This is not acceptable, tell your firm to come and look at it and they should repair it.
We always use a wet mix and never have problems but most seem to point by hand and if the workers don't get the mix right it will be too sandy.
If you have lost 30-40% already its likely that the rest will soon follow, if left this will harm your foundation and the flags with become loose or dip.
Therefore it would be best to get the firm to remove the existing mortar and re-point/grout it.
This isn't such a big deal for a good company- will take a day for a labourer to do.
Patching it up won't look right, if your company wont re-do it all, i would recommend getting quotes off someone else to do it. expect to pay £200 ish.
