Just to let you all know that the 50/4 deos not have a PCB so dont worry i wont be attempting to change iit myself.

Thanks for you posts though. I dont resent paying a professional as i am a professional myself (not boiler though) and understand the fees involved to keep myself and knowledge up to stratch. I like most people just like to try to solve problems themselves (especially when funds are tight) if it is simple. I do not mind at all paying for a service but do resent paying £168 (quoted price) if i can be fixed in a few minutes without speciality tools or knowledge.

Thanks for all involved and good all the best in the present climate!

Regards
Rob

regarding this and your other post

you have been warned you will be disturbing gas carrying fittings

so you will have to get in a RGI

sorry mate but it really isn`t worth it

i wish people would stop changing pcb`s thinking it doesnt involve gas

after changing pcb`s the gas pressures/rates should be checked

To replace the PCB you will need to remove the firefront, replace said PCB, carry out saftey inspections and test on the flue, gas pressures and refit fire before carrying out further flue tests and refitting the case, this one is more than I would recommend for a DIY man, British Gas will do you a fixed price repair for around the £200 mark.

To get the fire front off you will disaturb a Gas Fitting, AND The Flue, you will need to carry out a tightness test on the gas supply, you will need to carry out a spillage and flow test on the flue,

This is what you pay a proffessional for, shouldn't cost more than £200-00.

To understand the implications of a Tightness test you would have to buy Publication IGE UP1-B, £80-00, you would also need to buy the guide for British standards relating to Flues for Gas fired Boilers Approx £150-00...

A Proffessional Repair is now starting to look really good value!!

www.gassaferegister.co.uk will assist you to find a RGI in your area ;)

When will people realise calling an RGI in will not cost the earth!

Paul

I get SO frustrated by people who resent me making even small profit, most customers have no idea what the proffessional fees to RGI's are, when you add G3, WRAS, OFTEC, Hetas etc etc  :!:

Try keeping your post all in one it stops confusion and people having a go at you such as this.

As i saisd previous you have probably blown your clock, just because lights are on i doesnt mean its giving out power.
What clock do you have as you could probably bypass it to check boiler etc is ok.

thanks namsag.

I have an Invensys up2 but bought a ACL Drayton (Invensys) Lifestyle LP722 7day Programmer to replace as my first thought was the programmer. The new one is the direct replacement and wires up the same (same wiring diagram on the back of the programmer) so i simply attached it to the existing base plate. I set up the times and tried in on advanced but all lights up fine but still no firing of the boiiler.

Could it be the soleniod on the gas valve? Having looked around in the tinternet i can not find a soleniod to replace so preseme it will have to be a new gas valve. these are not cheap so any chance it could be something easier?

All replys so far greatfully recieved...i appretiate the time given to others!

Rob

take off the programmer

make a link from L to ch on

check your stat now

i would say youv balls`d the wiring

but thats a technical term
