Hello -- I have to fit a heavy wall mounted bath filler. It has a 1" BSP piece to go through hole in wall and then a brass backnut screwed on behind the wall clamps it on. After allowing for the thickness of backnut, there is 25mm length of the 1" BSP.

If I allow for 12mm board then 12-13 mm tile and adhesive, that will not leave any thread left to get the female BSP tee piece on to supply the water. I was thinking of using 12 mm WBP Ply rather than plasterboard for the stud wall surface and rebating into the outside face of that a small sheet of say 3mm thick brass, putting a hole in it for the 1" BSP, and thus only having around 15-16 mm thickness (12-13mm tile + 3mm plate), which would allow 9mm of thread to get the tee on (that's approx 3 turns).

How would this type of filler normally be fitted? Any better ideas?

Thanks

Peter

Have you thought about getting a longer section of 1" BSP? ;)

The threaded section is part of the body of the filler spout, fixed tight in, not removable.

Is there enough body of tap to cover an attachment of a 1" Female to 1" Male connector, which would provide you with the extra length you desire?

Having posted on choice of board for stud wall behind bath, I am now convinced to use Knauf Aquapanel. The threaded piece of tap filler is 38mm long (diagram at link below). I'll have 12.5 mm tile/adhesive + 12.5 mm board + 12 mm backnut, total 37 mm, which leaves no thread left to get the BSP female tee on (or an extension piece).

I will call the supplier, Barber Wilsons, but I guess there must be an easy solution people use when fitting these things.

Grateful for any ideas, Regards, Peter

Couple of questions:
1/. How much room will there be behind the aquapanel?
2/. What pipework connects the tap to the outlet?

If you have a stud wall and it's 22m pipe, you could use a 1" to 22mm straight or angled connector and fix the 22mm pipe to a batten fixed to a batten behind the aquapanel at an appropriate depth, and not use the backplate supplied. This is pretty much how it's done for shower mixers (although they normally have 1/2" to 15mm connectors but the principle is the same)

Many thanks for your replies Dextrous. There is a 4"/150mm gap (4x2 stud). I will look at a 1" BSP to 22mm straight, into a soldered 22mm tee. I am thinking because it's straight I can use it also to nip up to the back of the aquapanel to give more support (the spout is really heavy, and probably an inviting hand-hold for kids etc.). I had thought about using the supplied female tee in the same way, but would be bound to get it tight at the wrong angle.

Thanks again, I'll measure up.

Regards Peter

Sounds a sensible thing to do - epecially if you can get or manufacture a thin washer to spread the load on the back of the aquapanel.

Not really sure where the female tee comes into it all though!

I contacted the manufacturer, Barber Wilsons. They have improved the design of this so that the spout is on a wall plate mounting instead of being supported by the supply pipes. Also, instead of screw in, it now pushes on to a spigot with o-rings and fixed with grub screw -- really nicely done. And even though I bought the original one more than a year ago, they changed it over to new type for me -- brilliant service!!

This solves it completely, but thanks for the suggestions.
