Am making cupboard to be mounted on lime plastered stone wall wondering what to use for cupboard backboard which CU will be mounted on.
Does it need to be something like Ellis board ?
If its any help, our current c.u. is on a bit of 1/4" ply on 2 1"sq. battens, two screws holding to the wall no longer do ought so it flaps in the breeze, new meter fitted three weeks ago n fitter never batted n eyelid. On that basis, have you thought of bits of string/nail gun ? Just make sure its done by a "competent" person (tongue in cheek !)
ok having looked through other posts seems that no one actually gives a toss what the CU is attached to despite the REC saying "must be fireproof board" so will just continue making wooden cupboard and if there's a scene I can stick a bit of ellis board on after.
Just use a piece of 18mm melamine coated chipboard, i.e. the white stuff often sold as shelves, or as sheeting.
Does not warp and gives a nice smooth surface and looks good too.
I generally mount the board on two vertical battens, one each side. This allows me to feed the cable in from the back, which is often much neater than using the knock-outs on the top, bottom or sides and preserves the IP integrity of the casing.
