hi
i have a hp nc6320 laptop which worked fine untill my dog chewed the power lead.
i bought a new one but laptop still shows flat battery.i have tested power adapter and i am betting the correct 18.5v ant 3.5a at jack plug but still nothing when you hit the power button.i have tried leaving it charging for days but still will not switch on
if anyone can shed any light on this then please let me know.

Was it plugged in when the dog chewed it or have you plugged the damaged one in since it was chewed?
If so you may have short circuited the power on the motherrboard.

Have you a local computer shop (not the PCWs ) near you where a guy could run some power checks on the Mobo.

hi dave,thanks for quick respons.
laptop was plugged in at the and the wife reckoned there was as few sparks so i presume the 3 wires probably touched each other.i know nothing about laptop,pc`s so youre advice is realy appreciated.if mother board is damaged does that mean i need to buy a new laptop or is it cost effective to repair.

Until your local comp guy has a look to see if it is just the connector or the Mobo power circuits that have been damaged, your question is like the length of a piece of string.

As it is definitely a hardware problem, it will need a 'looking at' as opposed to printed advice on a forum, particularly as you are not OK with laptops yourself.

Just get it checked over and see what he recommends.

can I also suggest you check where the adaptor plugs into laptop - mine went and I had to have it replaced. If dog pulled at the wire it's posible he's moved the plug/socket point slightly on the laptop. try wiggling it about and see if you can get any charge

hi all
thanks for replys.unfortunatley due to my lack of technical experience i will probably look to buy a new laptop.on the off chance if anybody knows of a laptop icould buy that would take the same battery as my hp nc6320 it would be appreciated if you could let me know as i could have a spare for when away from power source.i would assume the laptop is worthless now so if anybody would like it for spares just let me know.cheers tjc

don't give up just yet................a lot of laptop repair companies these days say if they can't repair it they won't charge. I had to send mine off so would've still incurred postage charge.

also many are happy to discuss problem by email and they may advise you if it's worth sending. Other thing is look at pc world also do repairs but they might be more expensive than smaller repair companies.

I wouldn't go out to find another lappy just because you have a battery (spare) of a particular size.

It could be that the battery got 'shot at' (techie term) when Fido chewed the wires, so may have been burnt out by a short circuit. So get it checked out first before looking for a specific laptop.
