Allotment

Hi

I think the answer is going to be 'no' but i'll ask anyway...

i was thinking about applying for an allotment and by the time i get one (5yrs +) and i decided to sell my flat (no garden) and then handing the plot on to the flat buyer - as an added incentive.

Wondered what the law on that was!?

In a word . . . NO

As the waiting time appears to be about 5 years, the demand for them is obviously outstripping supply (availability), so if one of the other allotment growers has a mate who is waiting for one when you come to sell your flat, he ain't going to be happy if you 'give' the lease of your plot to someone else. And so you will be dragged before the committee of the council who own the allotments and told to read the lease details, which is what you should do when you put your name down originally.

The missus' friends husband has an allotment. I was asking about it to him and ust mentioned what the cost is of having an allotment.......I was shocked when he told me it only costs about £30 per year to have!

didn't think you could buy them - just rent.

sue - you are correct.. you cant buy them... you just rent them off the council effectively...
