hi i've have moved into a new property, but i'm having problems understanding the heating and hot water system,

the boiler is an oil fired danesmoor 15/19, it has two 22mm pipes coming out from each side. 2 hot waters and 2 heating pipes i presume?

both of the output pipes have pumps on them, there is an immersion tank in the airing cupboard and a cold water and a header tank in the loft,

from what iv worked out the return from the hot water goes into the side for the heating and the heating return goes into the hot water side of the boiler

is that normal? my plumber mate said he hadnt seen a system like it before,

anyone else know how this works??

Thanks in advance for any help :)

You'll have a cold feed from the F&E tank and pumped H/W. Then Feed & Return for the heating, nothing out of the ordinary...

You will need to ensure that when the hot Water pump is running, that water is not discharging from the open Vent pipe into the F&E Tank, if this is occuring the boiler and any steel radiators fitted will corrode at an alarming rate

I've seen dozens of boiler piped in this way and some have failed after only a couple of years, Iv'e converted most of the systems to a Sealed type whilst fitting the new boiler, which overcomes the problem ;)

hi thankyou for the replys, iv spent the last day follwing pipes and from what i can work out this is the system thats in place..

are you sure? looks like you have a pump on the boiler OV and possible cross contamination from the F&E tank to the CWS tank and thats just for starters probably going to work but not how it should be done, looks like your installer wasn't much of a plumber either :)
