I am not an expert by any means, but when my PC starts to run slow I run AVG for virus & spyware, disc clean up & defrag, & registry mechanic. It always seems to resolve the problem, but to be honest I do not have a clue as to why.

Just the Internet or the entire PC ? is it slow to run other things or just when displaying web pages.

Post spec of PC please.

Which version of Internet Explorer are you using ?

Trying Firefox won't harm, IE browser could have been compromised.

you might have too much clutter that needs cleaning.you can also upgrade your memory which will help.from simon

i thought it was something to do with updates, anyway i tried chrome and it's certainly a lot faster,i think i'll keep with it for the time being...the only site what does drag it's heels is ebay otherwise it's ok. i did the cc cleaner and it found nothing wrong, did a defrag,so i changed the browser....

Thanks for posting back.

Ccleaner does not 'find things wrong' it is purely a cleaner that removes rubbish that accumulates everytime you use you computer, whether browsing or downloading.

If you are happy with Chrome then keep using it. So as not to complicate things or confuse you, stay with Chrome and when you are happy with it, you can give Firefox a try, if you like.

Always have your Windows/Microsoft Updates set to 'Notify me but do not automatically download or install'. That way you can look at what they are for and donload and install a couple at a time and see how they have effected your computer if at all. If everything is fine then get another couple.
That way you can pinpoint which, if any has caused a problem and uninstall it.
