Sleeper Wall and Timberlok Screws

Hi All,

I think I've decided to go with a sleeper retaining wall rather than gabions ( //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=192429 ).

My plan, after reading lots of posts on here, is to set sleepers in concrete vertically and then screw horizontal sleepers to these. I'll put a vertical sleeper at each end, and one in the middle of each horizontal sleeper, if that makes sense

I'm planning on screwing the horizontal sleepers to the vertical ones using Timberlok landscaping screws, but my question is what size I should buy (I need to buy a LOT of them !!). Since the horizontal sleepers will be 100mm wide I was thinking of using 150mm Timberlok's which means they would go 50mm into the vertical sleeper when I screw them together - is this enough ? The alternative is to use the 200mm Timberlok's but these may poke out of the back of the vertical sleeper by a mm or so . . .

I've just bought myself a Makita BTD130F cordless impact driver to put the Timberlok's in with, so I'm hoping this will do the trick !!!

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy Timberlok landscaping screws ? The cheapest I've found so far is Bunny's Bolts ( http://www.bunnysbolts.co.uk/fastenmaster ) - I think I'm gonna need to two of the 250 pails . . .

There basically the same, and a little cheaper....have used these before as an alternative to timberloks, and they were fine.

At Bunny Bolts online a pack of 250 150mm timberlok's is £112.13 inc. VAT. The screwfix 150mm are £111.38 for 250 (i.e. 5 packs) hence, it's less than a pound more for the Timberlok . . .

Any recommnedation on what length I should go for (150mm vs 200mm ?).

Personally, i'd go for the shorter ones, but then again i tend to bury the heads right in.

150 should be fine.

Has anyone used any of the cheaper alternatives to Timberlok ?

Looks like Screwfix do their own brand, Jewsons seem to as well - are they any good, or do you think paying the extra for Timberlok is worth it ?

used several, cant think of the ones we use at the moment. theyre all much of a muchness, i dont rate the green ones much though
