Salus RT500RF Programmable Room Stat Questions

personally I would say all Salus products are crap. Honeywell have the market sewn up and the quality speaks for itself. I am always getting called out to faulty salus units, they are $hit!

Correction big fella. Salus RT500RF is one of the easiest RF programmers in the market.
True they had thier faults in the early days, what wifi and wireless broad band. but thats sorted now and all my installs get these (cuase I is LAZY now init)

Simple to program and simple for customer to alter, Infact to sum completly simple.

;)

are you trying to tell me that salus are better than the honeywell CM range

sorry but stevie wonder could spot the difference in quality between the 2.

No not a cocked hat of a chance.

Though I do say the Salus 500 is good.

Interesting thread in the CC shown which boilers RGIs had.

Now whats on you WB ;)

Ref the Grahams Altech question, purely a temporary manufacturing issue, now totally corrected. promise you they are now 100%.

BEWARE: anyone fitting salus rt stats, DO not use any force when tightening the wiring terminals. check the tightness on the factory fitted link ,that will show you that they know the soldering is very poor!!!!!!!!!

honestly guys, i have been using these stats for 18 months with no problems, not one came out the box faulty, no fails at all, all batteries still operational, customer can set it up and change as reqd.

only faulty ones i had (which was 60% fail) were the re badged altech ones.

The soldering was improved as soon as the issue was picked up (recently). I can assure you, production now uses harder/stronger solder and problem is corrected. The official Salus Technical Helpline phone number (on all user manuals) will of course resolve any queries.

leeds plumber
could you please mail me the plain english version of the instructions for the salus rt500rf.

Also is there an option to say the scenario was you`ve arrived home, it`s cold and you want the heating on immediately. Can you push a button and on it comes?

The link http://www.salus-tech.com/manuals/RT500RF.pdf takes you to the RT500RF user manual which is on the Salus website (as are all of them).

To bring heat on outside of the programmed time simply use the 'up' arrow to raise the temperature setting to what you require (say 21). this is a temporary override which will reset at the next programmed time.

The reason the stat is coming on during the night/ always being on is setting number 5, there are 5 settings on the Salus

1 is the time you want heating on eg, 07.00 and set the temp (20)

2 is the time you want it to go off eg, 10.00 and set the temp (10 this will turn it off)

3 is the time to come on an evening eg. 17.00 and set the temp (20)

4 is the time you want it to go off eg, 23.00 and set the temp (10 this will turn it off)

5 the problem many people have is that they do not set number 5 correctly, this is a night/ frost stat and if you don't set the time and temperature same as 4 ie, 23.00 and 10*c then the heating will stay on.

I have had quite a few customers who struggle with the instructions so i typed it out in plain English as a word document and give it to them so its easier, if you want send me your e-mail address and i will mail it to you.
can you send me the easy instructions cheers

Hi all

I too have a faulty rt500rf. it only works if you place the control unit within 3 feet of the receiver (before it was working at 20feet plus a wall). It worked perfect for 2 years, then one day the heating stopped on even after the control unit told it to switch off. I have moved the jumpers (on both units) reset it and changed the batteries. All to no avail. Other than this hiccup I have been quite happy with the unit and all the family finds it a doddle to use, so I would like to replace with the same. So do I need the replace the stat unit, or the receiver unit, or both?

Many thanks
Guy

Guy, You will need to replace both units. This is because earlier this year the operating RF frequency was changed to 868Mhertz, a much less busy frequency (so more reliable). But remember that salus products have a two-year warranty so you will certainly get a new one FOC.

Thanks for that. It was just over two years old but salus said they would replace it.

The thing i find annoying about these programmers is the fact that unlike most there is no mode to cycle between heating constantly on, off or timed.

So what if i have all my times set but the weather is hot and i don't want any heating on? do i have to re programm ALL my times to turn the heating off then re-programme them when i want it on again? or Keep turning the boiler on and off at the boiler stat? what if the boiler is in the loft?

Also there is only scope to have the boiler on/off once in the morning and once at night, what do i do if i want the heating to come on for an hour at lunch time? there should be 6 time points not 5

I don't rate these programmers at all
