Hello all

I've an issue in my dining room which was a garage convert 2 years ago. I believe the electrics in this room are on their own loop. When this was carried out I had a newish circuit box fitted, Crabtree Loadstar. My problem occurred yesterday when the rest of my family were watching X factor, though please don't let that put you off helping :).

All power tripped and upon re-setting the MCBs to on there is now no power in the dining room. Unfortunately for us the central heating boiler is located in the dining room so we now have no hot water. Not good with a 15 year old daughter and a whinging wifey on the rampage.

My question is this, can an MCB stay in the "on" position and power not be getting through it or is there something worse happening like the wire under the flooring gone?????????????/

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Paul.

worth flipping it on-off a couple of times, internal mechanisms can stick.

There isn't also an RCD on the board thats tipped? sometimes they stop halfway and people think they're still on. These need to be switched off then on.

Took main fuse out of supply and removed panel from circuit box. Looked a bit too "sparkyfied" for me so replaced panel and main fuse.

Bingo... I had power and hot water again.

Tuesday 14:20 hrs same again. Told my missus via mobile to turn leccy off & clout the MCB with her shoe. Didn't solve it :)

Got sparky out and the MCB is "burnt out". £40 for him to get juice flowing tonight via existing MCB for rest of house & replace tomorrow. Does that sound about right folks?

Cheers
