Alarm panel visibility

Hi, hopefully someone can offer some advice.

Im about to move into a house where there is currently an alarm system installed. The main alarm control panel is positioned in the kitchen above the cupboards. The kitchen is on the rear of the property which is probably most vulnerable to being broken in through. Anyone breaking in through the rear would be able to see the alarm panel.

Should i have it moved to a less 'in the face' part of the property or would it make little difference. Just a bit concerned someone could come in through the kitchen and disable the panel by smashing it up. If they did this, would the bellbox sounder continue to function?

The control panel must be in a protected area.

ie you shouldn't be able to reach the panel without already having activated the alarm.

If for example the panel in the kitchen could be reached without activating the alarm ie there was a door contact but an entry was made through a window and no movement sensor was there then its a bad system design.

Different panels have different possibilities. The panels I fit have survived all sorts of bashing and abuse but have still operated even when pulled from the wall and stamped on.

Other panels may not be so tough. However Do you mean the keypad is visible or the actual endstation?

The panel is a G4 Honeywell. It is the endstation that is visible in the kitchen which im referring to, not the remote keypad. The kitchen is protected by a PIR so the panel cant be accessed without triggering the alarm.

I was more thinking that the 'intruder' could trip the alarm but then deactivate it within 20 seconds or so by smashing it up.........i dont know if the bellbox would continue to sound if the alarm panel was smashed up, i presume not. I could always box the panel in to hide it-would be easily done in the kitchen-i would make it accessible though of course.

Does the kitchen pir have an entry delay or is it instant?
Again here we are looking to ensure the alarm has activated before the enstation can be reached.

As for wether it would continue even if the endstation was smashed again that will be down to the individual system components and their working condition. ie The bellbox would only continue to sound as long as its back up battery was still in good order.

No entry delay on the PIR John-its instant as soon as it detects.

Sounds like it should be ok. I guess there arent many places in the household where you could successfully hide the alarm panel where it wouldnt take more than a minute to find it anyway.

Will probably box it into a cupboard or make it look like an extractor hood or something.
