I am a student and i am studying A level product design, For my course i have been given the task of desiging a solution to a problem of my choice, The problem i have chosen is the lack of information with regards to car maintenance that is provided when purchasing a car, I have decided to design a display aimed at first time car buyers.

any advice on what i might include would be great.

Any feedback on this idea would be great as it can be used within my coursework.

Thanks for reading :)

mmmm sounds a good idea, but the way dealers have/are going there doing there upmost to stop the owner from doing anything to there cars, return of business ect.

on some cars its a dealer visit to change just a headlight bulb because iirc the whole of the front bumper has to come off,now is that right?i think not.

Renault Migraine?

When you buy a car do people take maintenance costs into consideration?
Fuel consumption, insurance, road tax etc come into it too.

Are you sticking with the basics like how to open the bonnet, check the water, oil, fluid levels, check the tyre pressure, tread depth?
Or go deeper into it like brake maintenance etc.

Its an awful idea, as mentioned before, no car dealer in the land will allow such a display in their showroom. Back to the drawing board!

hey

thanks for feedback, i have my local ford dealership as a client, and they have stated my intenentions and they believe it is a good idea

i believe i will include basic car maintenance such as oil checks, water checks e.t.c as i am aiming the display at first time car buyers 17-22 and many people who i have asked did not have any advice.

Would you consider this advice to be helpfull if you were a fist time car buyer and did not know basic car maintenance ??

Everything you are suggesting is supposed to be learnt as part of and prior to taking the driving test anyway.

thats a really good point, do you have any ideas that i could include as well as this, that first time car buyers might not know ?

yes search and find on the internet a car forum related to the car they want to buy, #and read up on the known faults that it suffers from, and the cheap fixes that can be carried out with info from said forum, and save themselves an awful load of dosh, but as the dealers wont like this idea i havnt got anything else to add.

Surely as you are the student, you're research should be a little more in depth than asking on a forum? Kids today eh!

It is called research.....Hence why i stated i would use this in my coursework..your eyesight must have let you down on that one...
what age do we liive in students cant ask others for advice, maybe you should have spent more time on your education inststead of on forums you hypocrite.

If you do not have anything helpfull that i can use, why even post on this ??
do u have nothing better to do than critise, atleast im trying to make a life for myself by getting A levels and then university... but you wouldnt know about that would you

he can ask for help if he wants, and you can refuse it if you want.

Why not go down the driving centre for the day and ask the plebs taking their test, although I appreciate that would involve actually speaking to people.

For my research Sir, I went on DIYnot.com and asked a question, I thought it showed real innovation and a flair for research!

this could be number 1 for you:
don't buy a car without the handbook that comes with it as this will tell you all you need to know about how/when to carry out basic maintenance
;)
