Now the white ball on the right seems to do nothing when the water refills?

What do I need to do as the flush happens, the refill happens then it keeps going and runs into the toilet again thus wasting a few pints of water each time?

Thanks in advance

Adi

Does the ball rise?

It should rise to close off the incoming water.

Can you see what "should" be happening when the ball rises to close off the water?

Can you see if, by raising the lever higher yourself, you can close off the water at any time during the refill?

If you simply need to raise it higher, you may be able to turn the screwed thread a few turns, which adjusts to lever to allow less or more water filling up the cistern.

Hi and thanks for such a speedy reply!

the arm with the float on it doesn't seem to do much and i will need to tak another look tomorrow night when i next see her.

What threaded screw are you referring too please?

To the left of the "blue bit" you will see a lever - when this lever rises it closes off the water (by the arm rising and pushing against the plastic bit - immediately to the left of the "blue bit" stopping the water from entering {above the blue bit}) - you see that metal nut at the top of the arm - by adjusting this - you make the gap smaller or larger, enabling you to allow less or more water to enter the cistern). You need to see how water is entering your cistern, identify why this gap isn't closing. The ball should be rising - if it isn't it might have a hole in it - you simply need to replace the ball. If the arm is broken, the ball should still rise (assuming it doesn't have a hole in it, and it isn't sticking against the side of the cistern). If the ball rises but the arm isn't doing it's job - it will be the arm that needs replacing.

Does the water infill slow down after the initial intake?

I see what you mean, it's all so tight in there, it's not easy to see like in your diagram!

Hmm have to recheck ref the water intake speed?

if the cable don't release back fully the the flush valve will stay open and the ball won't rise due to the water going straight down the flush valve into the pan.

ps thats a wirquin flush valve.

It does settle back to touching the other part when flushed so i think the button / cable is ok?

what is the flush valve?

Dizz, are you sure? If you think you are, look at the picture again. especially to the left.

Guys,

I got an open window tomorrow night as the girlfriend is away for the night!

If I get the item i mentioned will it update and also fix the problem please?

I have been helping her cut her usage from lighting / heating and now water so more 'browny points' will be greatly accepted given its our 1 year anniversary on the 30th!

Appreciate your assistance, alot of forums shoot newbies down ... i want to learn not cheat!

yes you can change it to the fluidmaster valve which is a copy of the macdee arcadia valve lot better than the wirquin valve you have.

Oh cool, i'm guessing switch water off at base of toilet (screw valve), then flush it, and sponge out the rest of the water? will i need to take the cistern off the wall? - i did some research to get to this conclusion ;)

Is it a straight swap as i would like it working for saturday so prefer not to be up half the night adjusting it?!
