The cable for the ceiling lights in the loft room is going to run along the beams (stripped back to antique pine colour), next to the antique white ceiling. There's really no way of hiding the cable completely, so I just need it to fit in as well as possible. White is just going to be wrong. I'm sure it used to be possible to get brown lighting cable, but I can't find it anywhere anymore. Does it still exist (or did it ever?)? If not, is it possible to tint or dye the white cable so it blends in a bit more? I've got things like antique brown Briwax that would probably get an acceptable tone, but I'm guessing that the solvents in this might not do the PVC cabling much good. What about something waterbased, like Cuprinol? Are there any issues with doing this?

rf lighting will pop down if you re-imburse his travel costs! ;) He LOVES pyro

As already said mineral insulated is way to go but there is also gold flex which may be better than white, black, blue or yellow.
But this is only rated 3A and Table 52.3 does not allow anything less than 1mm for lighting but you may find another supplier has larger versions?
