Hello,

I have a problem with my Thorn EMI Apollo 30/50B boiler and wonder if anyone can help me. The serial no. is 8502294624 and the G.C. no. is 41 789 54

Recently the pilot refused to stay lit so I fitted a new thermocouple with an interruptor which is wired to a small round black sensor on the Heat Exchanger. The problem is that after the boiler has fired up for a short time either on the High or Low Thermostat setting there is a pronounced "click" and the burners shut down and the pilot goes out. When I get the pilot re-lit everything starts up again as normal but then shuts off in the same way. The pump is quite new and is working perfectly.

If anyone can offer me advice I would be very grateful. Thanks very much, Simon.

The black sensor is the overheat 'stat - if the low or high 'stat fails - whichever one is in use, this cuts the signal from the themocouple due to the excess temperature. Either both the low and high 'stats have failed (possible but rather unlikely) or the overheat 'stat is faulty.

i'll be looking at the OH stat and will check the hi low stats aswell i personally think there out of calibration.
