My Hotpoint Integrated fridge(Model 6935) of some 17 years vintage stedfastly refuses to drop below 10 degres centigrade. The compressor never stops presumably because it doesn't get cool enough - it doesn't switch off no matter where the control is turned to except when the control knob turns the compressor off altogether at lowest number. Door seals appears good all round and not broken or sagging anyhere. - tried with a piece of [aper and it grips it moderately well). Rear of fridge is constantly icing up - presumably due to auto defrost not working. Is it fit only for that great scrapyard in the sky.

themostat gone, price £114.00 scrap yard time i think.

Thanks Rocks. can't understand if thermosat is faulty why temperature doesn't get any lower and auto defrost ain't working.

compresser running all the time its up to temp .then stat stops at the right temp and defrost comes on later therefore stat not switching off and will be ice all the time on the back wall hence no defrost .trust me after 20 years on these i know a bit about them :)

Rocks I bow to your experience. However even when I defrost the fridge and clear off the build up of ice and turn it back on again the fridge temperature doesn't drop below 10 degrees approx even though the compressor never stops once. The compressor churns away but the temperature remains high yet the ice for the first day or two is minimal. Can you explain what is going on thanks. Secondly what does this stat do that a £15 one doesn't? Thirdly does the thermostat control the auto defrost function and is there more electronic stuff behind the rear wall? A lot of questions but just trying to satisfy myself as to sequence of events when it all fails!

the stat cuts in when it reaches temp, stat is open curcuit it controls defrost heater as well, it takes 24 hrs to get the right temp. you cant put a mini stat in a rolls royce hence the price, nothing behind the rear apart from gas pipes which keep it cold ,only 3 things in your fridge compressor ,stat, defrost heater and pipe work round the side. also the connections on the stat and phial is different to every fridge.

Rocks. What is type of thermostat for this fridge. It has no ice box. I have seen both Ranco K59 H2800 and Ranco K59 H1300 fitted to this type of fridge. Thanks.

they are the cheaper stats that will fit 90% of fridges ,you would have to search for the model number they fit .they are called patterned parts.

Almost had a Bosch replacement bought locally for this fridge that would not run sufficiently cool over this past few years or so. I decided to extract the old fridge prior to buying the new one- what a job getting kickboards out of the way and lifting vinyl flooring. Anyway I noticed a small panel (palm sized) on side of appliance. removed this to find two cooling coils. I vacuumed these clear of dust that had built up- not very much in my opinion. I also vacuumed the fan area, accessing it through the "coil cavity". I was very pleasantly surprised to see that over the next day the temperature of the fridge dropped down to 3-4 degrees and the auto defrost kicked in too. The fridge is now cycling properly through the cooling & defrosting routine. I find it hard to believe that the dust and debris I found prevented the fridge working properly. Perhaps there was more round the fan area than I thought there was. At last some respite for the compressor that was absolutely roasting from top to bottom - though I think there may have been an internal cut out in it. At least I saved myself £350 - better than a trip to the sales.
