In one of rentals, the door threshold and bottom of the frame had rotted. Agent got a joiner to replace it...

This is what he did:

When I first saw, I thought the tenant had done a temporary repair himself. But no, someone expects me to pay them for this piece of softwood and silicone.

Just thought I'd share.

if he is only charging you £20-£30 then its a fair job for the money

really? how is it 'fair' for any money?

It needs re-doing therefore even if it was free, it's useless.

I don't know the price yet, but he wasn't asked to do a bodge job.

The whole frame is knackered...no one could make a decent job of that, but mind you I'd do better than he did.

Its certainly a bodge job but thats what some people want / can afford, if thats all you could afford then £20-£30 is about right for what he has done
a full splice and new hardwood threshold would be in the region of £150 and some people just cant afford that at the moment
maybe there was a lack of communication or more likely he is trying to fleece you

good luck with it

I'm sorry but the Agent did not get a Joiner to do this. As someone stated it's a £20/30 handyman job - not the work of a joiner!!

To be honest that frame needs replacing. What did you ask/tell the joiner to do?

If it were me and you had told me only to replace the threshold, I would had told you that the whole frame needs doing. The repair you have had done there won't last very long, it will be weak as it is not fixed to the frame. Load of crap really.

This is the trouble with agents, everything is done as cheaply as possible. The joiner has probably been told to only replace the step. Even then it's still a crap job though!
