6mm + 10mm cable

Who would need that info?

I had an electrician in to do a safety cert and he told me that a 4mm spur should be changed to 6mm. When he came back to replace the cable, it was evident that the existing stuff was 6mm, so I suppose you could argue that the information would be useful to the experts.

especially if its in an awkward/unfamiliar location and you don't have anything to compare with its not that hard to mistake one size for the next one up or down

SWA is even worse once you add the packing and armour the difference between 1.5mm and 6mm is surprisingly small.

Has anyone tried after preparing and twisting stranded wire, dipping the end in a drop of solder to stop them spreading when tightening?

No, it is probably one of the worst things to do as solder will flow after a while causing a bad connection.
Also this topic is over 5 years old now

Is that for blood-pressure reasons?

Or just general H&S?
