Simple Q Please

"The diagram does not tell you to connect the supply as you have stated, and if you are so incompetent that you think it does then there is no way you should be doing the work" is a pure statement of fact in a neutral tone.

It contains not one word of abuse or insult.

I have just looked up "incompetent" in my Microsoft Thesaurus and I would interpret your reply as rude, even if it was intended as a statement of fact.
I read this Forum quite regularly and have learned quite a lot from other peoples experiences but I am being put off by some peoples arrogance and 'know it all' attitude.
Lets all try and be polite even if we are trying to point out to people Health & Safety and Legal obligations.
For an example of how to be polite while addressing the issue of Part P refer to the reply from Chris5

Read the definition of a competent person in the IEE wiring regs, that is more applicable to the situation.

It is not an insult, but I do not think someone proposing to put a supply on terminals marked output, would fit into the catagory of a competent person.

I do agree with your reasoning rocky but my point was more aimed at being Polite when replying to peoples questions. Not every one is aware of the term "Competent Person" in the Regs so it can be mistaken as a derogatory term.
Maybe there should be a quote in the Wiki that we could just refer people to when they appear to have little experience or knowledge in this industry.
We should try and imagine how you would phrase a reply if you were actually standing in front of them. It's all too easy to hide behind anonymous Forums.

.... so if you arn't competent, does that mean you are incompetent?

Ok Ok maybe everyone that posts on this Forum should have thick skin and not be afraid of the odd insult.

nuff said from me!

I will keep reading the Forum with interest.

read first, then i suppose you can guage the best way to ask a question without getting ripped into. People rightly get annoyed when arrogance can cause death and advice is wrongly ignored. Also there are laws in place in the country, for better or worse, which cannot be condoned to be ignored. People will help, some may seem abrasive although they all seem to have the best interest in mind, even if it is tough love.
