Hi all,
we have a boiler ten years old and after ignition can go into a rapid sucsession of momentary main burner shut downs, these only last about 1 second. the pilot stays alight. we have changed the electrode and lead. PCB, air pressure switch, and the case seal all appears to be in good order. we have also checked the flue integrity, all is good. these often occur 1 or 2 times then boiler settles down, customer thinks it gets worse towards the end of the day
any suggestions. thanks.

Sticky gas valve possibly check your inlet working pressure at the boiler, note the difference from when it intermittently fires to when it stays fired, gas valve may be sluggish, also check the voltage sent to the gas valve is adequate.

we tried a new gas valve, (had one in stock) but made no difference. we have aslo checked all pressures, all ok. no problems with inlet pressure or govenor either, its been changed.

well i suggest you go back to basics with the boiler as now you seem out of control of understanding the boilers fault.

Do all basic checks on the boiler.

These are a must check.

1. Polarity check, gr/bl = 0v, br/bl = 240v, gr/br = 240v, obvious check but if you're not gaining the correct readings that is a definite source of the intermittent boiler on off.

2. Gas pressures, check your inlet at meter work pressure, then you're inlet on gas valve work pressure anything under 15mbar i turn off. Outlet gas pressures as well.

3. Do all external controls 100% work? check room stat and timeclock, i imagine its a danfoss roomstat and timer, check zone valves.

These are things i am sure you know, but you need to seek help from technical support, collate all the information you gained from the basic check and supply them to technical support.

I have that exact boiler currently sat in pieces on my floor! I was experiencing exactly the same problem and it has been diagnosed as a blocked heat exchanger. Is the front of your boiler getting very hot? Basically the heat/gas wouldn't pass through the exchanger so it was burning back on itself (if that makes sense!).

I've tried unblocking it without success (its a build up of soot)........

How have you tried to clear the soot? Could be worth an acid dip to clear inside and out.

With pipecleaners!! They've worked in places but some of the holes are blocked solid. I don't have anything else small enough to poke through.

Where can i get an acid dip done?

Is the tube to the boiler stat phial touching the heat exchanger?
There will be 2 'tubes' to look at if its a Gravity Hot Water system.

Flooze.
