That prison site I posted earlier said it was canny!

I've got Sky+, it's great for recording stuff for the bairn. My wife records some stuff. I hardly watch it... watch streaming tv on me other monitor (coz a is posh like! )

Don't know about HD as I'm not willing to pay extra for something they are broadcasting anyway! I've got Freesat on my Panny so get the freesat ones (just BBC and ITV at the min). The picture quality is simply outstanding on a HiDef TV. Probably be even better on one of those prison ones!!!!!

not got hd, so can't comment there. however, looking back at standard Sky, i couldn't live without Sky+ it is so much better in regards to recording television, live pause etc. and gives a much greater sense of freedom to watch tv when it is most convinient.

Are you planning a short stay in hospital? Say about £65 pcm for 1 year contract, plus a setup fee = say £850 all in. This is equivalent to 3 days hospital TV rental scheme. So, if you can stretch your minor op to 4 days, you'll be quids in and can use the money you'll save to contribute towards the parking fees

i have a freeveiw twin recorder it does the pause live tv thing ect 180hrs record time all for around £130

ok not the same but i am wondering whether by using top up tv you could get the same functions and channels for less money!!

i pay £40 for normal Sky on one tv (although routed through to others) but no pausing of tv.... no recording.... no multiroom.... no "supertelly".... just wondered what i'm missing !

£5 extra would upgrade to sky plus I think. Pausing/recording/rewinding is quite useful, especially if you have children and a wife who happen to start talking at precisely the critical moment , or with my slowly fading hearing - a rewind to hear what was said often helps. As for HD, don't know. Suspect that this would only be worthwhile if you had a good TV.

Martian, do what everyone else does, ring up Sky and tell them you've had a better offer from Virgin (or you just want it taking out if Virgin isn't available in your area). My experience of speaking to people reveals that if you've been with them for a while they don't do anything for you unless you fight for it! They'll probably put you through to the 'disconnections' department (or whatever it's called). They'll ask you why you're leaving and then make you an offer to stay. If you fight hard enough and/or plead pity they can and do offer a Sky+ upgrade for free.

If you've forked out on a pukka telly, like an LED one then you'll appreciate SkyHD.

If the wife, one day, will ever let me watch what I want to watch, then i'll tell you if its any good or not

I didn't think there would be much difference in HD and regular until i went to a store and saw the same blueray being shown on 2 tellies.. one regular and one HD..
the amount of detail that was lost on the regular telly was simply astounding..
you couldn't see the lines in the brickwork and text was all fuzzy and so on..

as for sky+, it would be a godsend for me as there are some good programs on at rediculous hours that I could record and watch later the next day when there's sod ( <- piece of turf in case the censor gets to it. )all else to watch..

AFAIK the only upgrade path now is to a HD box (Unless you multiroom), but unlike in the past you don't have to take to HD subscription anymore, so you get C4, BBC and ITV HD without the HD Sub but more recording space than Sky+

I have had HD for about 3 years and never looked back, first thing I did was swap the standard 320Gb hdd for a 1Tb.

Go for it, and never look back  ;)

I'm pretty sure you have to subscribe to their HD package (£10 per month), to get HD viewing but I could be wrong.

You do but you don't have to for BBC, C4 and ITV HD(if you manually add ITV) they are free to view without any subscription although C4 needs a FTV card

we have just done this today, been having a few probs with them, were on our 2nd sky+ box within a year, well today woke up and couldnt get any sky channels couple of hours later it all came back on,missus rung up and complained and was basically told well its on now so what you complaining about.
she said any more trouble and were canceling the lot, couple of hours later she received a call from a supervisor, were now having sky hd fitted multi room x3 and movies free for 6 mths ALL FOR SOD ALL ;) ;) happy days.

As said, Sky+ is incredibly convenient.

Imagine watching a really good sports event, news item, quiz final or whatever, should the phone ring or the door knock you simply press pause.

If you pause it for long enough, when you re-start you can then catch up with real time programming by fast forwarding during the adverts.

The best thing is though when you think you have seen something on the tele but can't quite digest/hear/understand/see what it was. You can re-wind as much as you like 'till you do understand.
