We have installed two close coupled wcs in a basement with a saniflo on each. The cisterns are the push button type. On separate occasions we have had floods, four to date. The building is unused overnight, but when the floods happened we found water belting out of the toilet pans. although on, the saniflos were not working. By switching the saniflo power on and off they kicked in and took the water away. I know there are a load of reasons why a saniflo might not work and obviously the switching on and off got them going, but why would this have the effect of making the cisterns release water at mains pressure continuosly?

Or has a failure of a cistern float valve left a saniflo pumping water all night, eventually stopping when an internal thermal cutout trips?

Cutouts often stay tripped until the power is switched off and on.

The cisterns are having the effect on the saniflo's not vice versa! Firstly, the push button flush, with floatvalves. Seen several that 'start' filling again when the incoming water pressure fluctuates, thus overflowing via the integral overflow into the pan. On mains drainage not so much of a problem than an annoyance. (Unless on a water meter....)

I suspect the valves are opening causing the cistern to overflow into the pan, then as Tickly T said, the Saniflo kicks in (as it should). It eventually overheats as it is running constantly and trips out on thermal cutout. Pan then fills with water and overflows.

Problem is with the cisterns, stop the constant refilling/overflow and the Saniflo's wont need to do anything when toilets are not being used. They are working overtime and dont like it!

What you need to look @ is a sort of electric solenoid to shut off the water supply when you want it off -ie. @ night.

Just turn the water off to the toilets before you go home.
